FAQ
What makes MedjetAssist unique?
Regardless of medical necessity, MedjetAssist will transport members to the hospitals of their choice with virtually no pre-existing condition exclusions, health questions, deductibles or claim forms. There are no monetary limits to the program's benefits and no restrictions on the amount or type of travel taken annually.
If I want to be transported from one hospital to another in medical emergency, are all my costs covered?
As long as an enrolled member meets the required inpatient criteria at both the referring and receiving hospitals (facilities), then MedjetAssist provides all reasonable and necessary transport services from bedside to bedside.
Who makes the decision as to whether I am transported?
While the MedjetAssist medical department consults with both your personal physician and the local attending physician as to what course of action is in the member's best interest, as long as the member meets the transport criteria (inpatient status at both ends), and all safety issues have been considered, then it is the member's ultimate decision as to whether or not he or she is transported.
How many transports am I allowed each year?
Two transports per year per membership. Except in the case of a common accident involving multiple family members, in which case each and every member of the enrolled family will receive one transport.
In a medical emergency, how long will it take after my initial phone call to you before I am moved to the hospital of my choice?
In most cases a MedjetAssist-authorized affiliate aircraft can be launched within hours of a call. This is obviously dependent on how accessible the member is to some form of landing strip that can accommodate a MedjetAssist-authorized affiliate aircraft.
Will you rescue me in any medical emergency no matter where I am?
No. We cannot guarantee evacuation from remote locations that do not have accessible landing strips.
How do you transport people from remote locations?
MedjetAssist has a network of authorized affiliate air medical providers throughout the world. Many of these have specialized capabilities allowing them access to more remote areas. MedjetAssist coordinates the entire process from start to finish.
Doesn't my current health care insurance cover emergency evacuations?
The vast majority of traditional health providers do not provide coverage for air medical evacuation and transportation services. If there is some coverage of this type, it will likely contain restrictions and significant out-of-pocket costs. Check with your provider for specific details.
What constitutes a "family" under family plan membership?
Primary member, domestic partner, spouse and up to five dependent children up to the age of 19 (or up to age 23 if a full-time student).
Do you have the resources to transport my entire family if all of us were involved in a medical emergency and subsequently hospitalized?
Yes. MedjetAssist authorized affiliate aircraft have the capability of transporting up to two critical patients simultaneously, as well as dispatching multiple aircraft at one time. Through our affiliate network, we also have the capability of transporting several non-acute patients at once on a common aircraft.
Do you have a separate program specifically designed for college students?
Yes. Individual students, while attending universities or traveling more than 150 miles from home, can choose to have domestic or international MedjetAssist membership protection at special reduced student prices.
Is an air medical evacuation expensive?
Yes. Domestic air medical evacuation services normally average $10,000 to $20,000, while international transports can exceed $100,000. As a MedjetAssist member, the membership fee is the only expenditure for complete domestic and international protection.
How can you do everything at such a low membership price?
We believe in charging a fair price for the services we provide, and our special relationship with Lloyds of London allows us the ability to guarantee our members they will have aircrafts when they need them.
Does Medjet operate or maintain its own aircraft?
No. MedjetAssist is an authorized Indirect Air Carrier (IAC) utilizing the services of licensed Part 135 air carriers to meet your air ambulance transportation needs. MedjetAssist does not own, lease or operate any aircraft, and has no affiliation with any direct air carrier. As an IAC, MedjetAssist contracts for the provision of air transportation services in its own name and coordinates the provision of medical services for your flight. All flights are operated by licensed direct air carriers.
